How Hypnotherapy helps you process grief.

As Autumn sets in, many clients visiting Brixton Hypnotherapy have come to process grief aka deep emotional pain — particularly grief. Whether it’s the loss of a loved one, the breakdown of a relationship, or life simply not turning out the way we imagined, grief has a way of shaking our foundations.

And honestly? Some of the stories I hear are heartbreaking. As a hypnotherapist based in South London, I’m honoured to be trusted with such raw, powerful emotions. While I may shed a quiet tear once a session is over (therapists are human too!), I also see so much resilience and healing.

Why Choose Hypnotherapy for Grief and Trauma?

When something life-changing happens, many of us instinctively turn to the gym, long walks, or talking it through with friends. These are all valid and valuable coping mechanisms. But hypnotherapy offers something unique, especially when it comes to grief, trauma and the anxiety and stress that follow.

Here’s why hypnotherapy works so well:

  1. Neutral Support: Unlike family or friends who may also be grieving or emotionally involved, I bring a calm, grounded presence. This allows you to be fully heard, without having to protect anyone else’s feelings.

  2. Gentle, Non-Invasive Healing: Hypnosis is a deeply relaxing, positive experience. It helps soothe your nervous system, calm an overactive mind, and create space for emotional processing. You don’t need to ‘relive’ every moment of pain to heal.

  3. Processing at Your Own Pace: Grief doesn’t follow a timeline. Hypnotherapy supports your natural emotional rhythm — offering a safe space to slow down, feel, breathe, and begin mending.

Grief; and its many guises

Finding a way forward through grief.

The Reality of Grief: You Still Have to Keep Going

One of the hardest aspects of grief is that life doesn’t stop. You may still be parenting, working, running a home, or caring for others — all while carrying heavy emotional pain. This is where Brixton Hypnotherapy can be a vital resource.

Taking an hour a week to pause, breathe, and connect inward helps you find solid ground again. With regular sessions, we work gently through the stages of grief, support emotional release, and help rebuild emotional resilience.

A Safe Space to Heal in South London

At Brixton Hypnotherapy, I offer a warm, welcoming space where you can be yourself — no pressure, no judgment. Whether you’re dealing with long-standing trauma, recent loss, high levels of stress, or chronic anxiety, hypnotherapy can help you reconnect with your strength and find peace again.

You don’t have to go through it alone. Healing doesn’t mean forgetting — it means finding a way to carry your experiences more gently.

If you’re based in South London and need support, get in touch. Let’s take the first step together.

When the going gets tough/ the tough get going! A song by Billy Ocean came to mind when Journalists used the word ‘tough’ and ‘might’ for current world politics. But hypnotherapy redefines toughness—not as silence or suppression, but as the strength to face and heal from emotional pain.

Emotional Resilience = that’s really TOUGH:

In hypnotherapy we recognise ‘tough’ differently, as emotional resilience and here is why;

Childish toughness is who can beat up the other kid, but toughness in adulthood can come in so many forms; the toughest people i’ve seen, show grace, humility and forgiveness.

To be truly tough is to respond, rather than react and to meet emotionally triggering scenarios with a calm, gentle curiosity. Hypnosis works best, when my clients are curious, open and vulnerable and for that, boy do you have to be emotionally resilient!

Daring to be wrong, daring to step down; that’s tough.

I previous client at Brixton Hypnotherapy, taught breathwork around the world,  he was ‘tough’; he’d been on a hell of a wellbeing journey and is still on it; a past addict, he’d spent a decade homeless before he turned a corner.

He came to me, so many tattoos and facial hair, that all I could see was a strong squat body and two piercing eyes. In a soft, gravely voice, he said he’d just led 500 people in Wales in letting go of emotions. He told me he’s changing the world, one breath at a time.

Hypnotherapy: room for surprise!

I have to admit, as a hypnotherapist in private practice for more than ten years, i’m not easily surprised, but this client surprised me. He turned out to be a guru of breathwork and could hold and guide 5,000 rippling through intense emotions, like I can hold my small dog on a lead! He had confidence, poise and emotional resilience in spadefuls and he was only with me, to nudge him along his journey.

The Power of Breathwork:

I am not new to breathwork. It is powerful and you have to be brave to use it on clients as you have no idea how they will react. To date, nobody has reacted the same; everyone has gone on a unique journey but the exciting thing about this, is everyone has had a journey!

Client experiencing the power of breathwork at brixton hypnotherapy in london under hypnosis.

A client experiencing the power of breathwork at Brixton Hypnotherapy in London.

Back to my client with uber emotional resilience! In my hypnotherapy chair, wanting to talk through demons and use hypnosis.

And that’s half of why he is truly ‘tough’. Open to new things, not sitting in hiw bearthwork kingdom thinking he’s got all the answers and at my clinic being vulnerable and curious.

Clients like this, they are tough. A survivor who had found a gentler, calmer, more connected way of living. Who had found his truth and was spreading the love and light.

Teaching Emotional Resilience:

As a hypnotherapist in London, i’m seeing clients with Anxiety, Stress, Sleeplessness, struggling with parenting and holding leadership positions. These people who get dressed in the morning, ‘putting on their big girl pants’ and trying to walk into offices looking ‘tough’ and ‘capable’.

How I can help:

Using hypnosis, but also other therapy tools, I bypass the thinking/chatter/ brain over-thinking stuff (most of my therapy clients have already been in years of psychotherapy or counselling) and I go straight to the body where they’re holding so much trauma and damage and I try to soften and release that before we re-build another, softer story.

And what’s curious, is hypnotherapy can do this. Suggesting, nudging, story-telling someone onto another path before re-building their resilience, will-power and commitment to a point in which they are truly and authentically tough.

If anyone wants to recommend me to one of these ‘tough’ world leaders, I am taking on new clients as of September!!

Brixton Hypnotherapy and AI: the future?

My supervisor recently told me ‘our jobs will be gone in the future’ as people will use AI for therapy instead of us. It is certainly true, that AI is being developed to specifically answer as a therapist. And it is also true, that AI is fast taking away many jobs that it can, quite frankly, do better.

So is hypnotherapy one of them?

groups interacting in person.

Overcoming anger, talking honestly, hypnotherapy helps openness, honesty and genuine communication. AI cannot do these.

AI and human connection:

For me, I value human contact. There is an energy exchange being in the room with another human. It’s non-verbal. This morning I had a client for hypnotherapy who finds it incredibly hard to open up and talk about himself, so the fact I could ask about his trainers, broke the ice but also gave me very useful information about the type of person he is, the things he values and so how I would best appeal to his sub-conscious with trance suggestion.

So, can AI do these things?

The answer is obviously no and hopefully hypnotherapists like myself, can stay useful to people when they can get ‘answers’ from AI that are just as good (if not better) than ones we can give. For example, if someone wants to find out more about their condition or tricks to deal with it, yes I can see them avoiding my hypnotherapy fees and asking ChatGPT. If someone wants instinct, empathy, randomness…I’m you’re hypnotherapist!

AI is not nuance…

But I’m banking on the thousand nuances that come from a human talking to a human; the enormous amount of non-verbal communication that goes on when you are sitting opposite another human and the ability to be be unpredictable when you are attune to your instinct as a therapist.

AI is not flawed…

And my final thought on this, is I am flawed; humans are flawed and it makes us both a nightmare and a dream! This ‘flawed’ state we are all in, also makes us unpredictable and that imperfection is impossible for AI to mirror. It can be randomly imperfect or programmed for deliberate flaws, but our capacity is innate and can’t be replicated.

I suppose by making my argument for keeping hypnotherapist, I’m trying to hold on to my income and the job i really enjoy, but I sincerely do think being a flawed, authentic therapist and having a clinic where people actually come in and sit with me, has value beyond the offering of AI.

Hypnobirthing therapist in South London - Elizabeth Knights-Trench

Being a hypnotherapist in London is all about the people I meet, the energy exchange and open, honest compassionate communication alongside the actual hypnosis. AI cannot do this.

And if I’m wrong; time to re-train!!

The first thought I had on ‘healing mother-daughter relationships using hypnotherapy’ was where on earth do I start! There’s so much to address; deep-rooted emotions, past wounds and generational patterns for starters.

But having a passion for the mother-daughter relationship and how to heal this for people struggling with the dynamic, seemed like a great idea.

Hypnotherapy and emotional repair:

My first decision, was not to repair the relationship. I know people have spent years trying to do this, and sometimes it’s too broken. Not because they don’t want to repair, but because the older generation won’t do the therapy work needed. If you’re sitting in a toxic relationship and you can’t change it, then get out.

Using hypnotherapy, we can journey to a place of healing mother-daughter relationships and kick-arse control. It’s OUR turn now! Not theirs! And if we want to break old patterns of behaviour and not act out as if we are the 7 year old we once were, we need to first work out what exactly the pattern is and then (using hypnotherapy tools and techniques) change things.

Mothers; for those who have them, had them or about to be there!

The Dirt and the Beauty:

Having laid out the route for a profound mother-daughter relationship healing journey, it was then a question of tone; do you approach this seriously, or with laughter and lightness? Can you say ‘hey ho’ and now it’s time to move on, or do we need to do the tears, grieving and putting it to rest? This comes down to where the person is on their journey. But wherever you are with this difficult relationship, if you go deep (and hypnotherapy does that!), you realise it’s ALL there; the dirt and the beauty, the tears and the laughter, the gifts and the damage. And the more you can welcome all of that in, despite the mess, the limitations (theirs and yours) and just face the whole thing with love and forgiveness, then the world of lightness and laughter naturally opens up to you.

So, it was super exciting to run a workshop and to stick to my decision; light, laughter and celebrating the whole mess we make! Hypnotherapy as a healing journey is gentle, pleasant and we bonded over the mess we’d made and the healing we were now bringing to our lives.

Join my Hypno-Club for news when I next run a workshop and get priority booking!

Being a hypnotherapist in South London, more specifically, a hypnotherapist, has brought many clients to my Brixton Clinic, who have been damaged not only by people, but my institutions.

Boarding School is obviously not a given ‘damager’; for a few, it is the wonderful place where they had friends, community, activities and a ‘riot’ of a time. But the clients I see coming to hypnotherapy (and they range from 25 to 85) are hounded by feelings of abandonment, not fitting in, unable to say how they feel or make meaningful attachments.

So how can hypnotherapy help?

Firstly, it’s the feelings we need to uncover; an adoption specialist recently said to me it’s a question of upstairs or downstairs behaviour. Sometimes, the upstairs brain is doing one thing and the downstairs body is doing something else. So you can logically think (when your dog walks out the door) that your dog has gone for the water bowl, while something twinges in your body which feels like grief/abandonment.

The interesting thing when you start to listen to the body (instead of the mind) is another story gets told; it’s a story of, for example, your seven year old part plonked at a school, knowing nobody and having to survive. Hypnosis used in therapy can help you access these younger versions of yourself who often act out when scared or triggered. Logically you can be telling yourself a very adult story, and yet your body is acting out the traumatised little kid.

Hypnotherapy is gentle, non-threatening and actually often enjoyable. You can gently dig up memories and feelings, explain why you act the way you do, what your fears and concerns are and then use therapy tools and techniques, including hypnotherapy, to calm the body, soothe the ‘fears’ and align mind and body so you can go through your life without being triggered or driven by things that actually make you deeply unhappy.

Hypnotherapy helps you unpick the parts, go through the events which made you cover up or pretend or harden up – to simply feel safe. When we get to that more vulnerable part of ourselves, we can start to see who we are under who we had to become.

Hypnotherapy is a gentle process of recovery and repair. You can come to me in South London (serving Brixton, Clapham, Dulwich, Streatham, Stockwell), or on Zoom, so we can gently start this journey to meaningful relationships in which you feel safe.

Hypnotherapy – Especially for Stress, Anxiety & Confidence Issues

Written by Brixton Hypnotherapy – South London Hypnotherapy for Real-Life Change

If you’ve ever Googled “therapist near me” after a stressful visit to your GP, chances are your results were filled with counsellors and psychotherapists. That’s no accident — most therapy directories are designed (and funded) to dominate those searches. But where does that leave hypnotherapy?

At Brixton Hypnotherapy, based in South London, we see this all the time. People search for mental health support, but hypnotherapy is often overlooked — or dismissed as “alternative” or “less professional.” Yet for many of our clients struggling with anxiety, stress, overwhelm, or low self-confidence, hypnotherapy is exactly what helps them break through.

The Reality: Hypnotherapy Is Unregulated – But That Doesn’t Mean It’s Not Effective

One reason hypnotherapy doesn’t appear in mainstream directories is that it’s not a regulated profession in the UK. Unlike counselling or psychotherapy, there’s:

  • No required training standards

  • No compulsory supervision

  • No obligation for personal therapy or CPD

  • And unfortunately, no protection for the title “hypnotherapist”

But here’s the thing: at Brixton Hypnotherapy, we voluntarily choose to uphold the same standards — and often go beyond them.

What Makes Brixton Hypnotherapy Different?

We believe that if you’re helping people with their emotional and mental health, you have a duty to stay informed, ethical, and continually evolving.

At Brixton Hypnotherapy:

✅ We undertake regular CPD and advanced therapeutic training
✅ We read widely – from trauma research to neuroplasticity and integrative therapy
✅ We follow leaders like Gabor Maté and Richard Schwartz (Internal Family Systems)
✅ We work under clinical supervision, just like counsellors do
✅ And yes — we do our own therapy, because healing should be embodied, not just taught

So while some hypnotherapists take a weekend course and start practising, we take a very different approach.

What Clients Come to Brixton Hypnotherapy For

You might associate hypnotherapy with quitting smoking or curing phobias — and yes, we do help with those. But over 90% of our clients come to us for:

  • Chronic stress and emotional burnout

  • Generalised anxiety and panic

  • Overwhelm – from life, work, or emotional overload

  • Low self-confidence and negative self-talk

  • Mild depression or a persistent feeling of being “stuck”

Often, these clients have already tried counselling, CBT, or talking therapy — sometimes through GP referral. While those approaches can be helpful, they don’t always work for everyone.

What we hear most at Brixton Hypnotherapy is:
“I wish I’d found this sooner.”

hypnotherapy in south london

Hypnotherapy is gentle, relaxing and powerful.

Why Hypnotherapy Can Be So Effective — Especially for Anxiety & Confidence

Unlike traditional therapy, hypnotherapy works directly with the subconscious mind — where patterns of anxiety, self-doubt, and emotional overwhelm are often rooted. Instead of just talking about the problem, we gently rewire the beliefs and habits that keep you stuck.

Hypnotherapy can be especially effective for:

  • Releasing chronic stress patterns

  • Building self-confidence

  • Calming an overactive nervous system

  • Creating new habits of thought and behaviour

And because the process is personalised and solution-focused, clients often experience meaningful change in fewer sessions than they expect.

Freedom & Flexibility = Better Results

One of the unexpected advantages of being outside of rigid therapy frameworks is freedom. At Brixton Hypnotherapy, we can:

  • Adapt your sessions to exactly what’s going on for you

  • Combine multiple therapeutic approaches for best results

  • Focus on results, not just weekly check-ins

  • Support your growth in a way that feels dynamic, personal, and empowering

We’re not limited to one method or school of thought — and that flexibility often translates into faster, more sustainable results.

How to Choose a Hypnotherapist in South London

If you’re exploring hypnotherapy in South London, here’s what we recommend asking:

  • What kind of training have they completed?

  • Do they engage in regular supervision and CPD?

  • Have they worked with clients experiencing similar issues?

  • Do they have a solid understanding of anxiety, trauma, and confidence work?

  • Are they active in their own personal development?

These questions matter far more than a label. A good hypnotherapist is curious, skilled, well-supported — and most of all, effective.

Facing the Fear: How Hypnotherapy Helps You Regain Control in Stressful Situations

By Brixton Hypnotherapy – Specialist Hypnotherapy for Stress and Anxiety in South London

Today I had a long-overdue meeting with a lawyer who specialises in wills. As someone who is unmarried with children, I’ve known for years that I need to make legal arrangements for the future. And yet, for over a decade, I did what many people do when confronted with uncomfortable truths — I avoided it.

You might think that, as a hypnotherapist helping clients with stress, anxiety, and overwhelm in South London, I’d know better. But like so many of us, I found myself deep in procrastination. And today, I finally faced it.

When Practical Conversations Trigger Emotional Reactions

The meeting itself was straightforward. The lawyer outlined his services and explained what would happen in different scenarios. But as he spoke — using terms like “just suppose,” “imagine if,” and “what would happen if…” — my mind listened, but my body had a very different response.

Fear. Panic. Anxiety.

Each sentence hit like a wave:

  • “Without a will, your children might go into care before guardians are appointed.”
→ My jaw clenched so tightly it hurt.

  • “Life insurance could be taxed, leaving you with less than expected.”
→ A lump formed in my throat, my chest tightened.

  • “Bank accounts are frozen after a death — you may not access funds for months.”
→ My palms grew clammy, face flushed, and breathing quickened.

I was fully in a fight-or-flight response, even though I was just sitting in a room listening to a professional.

Fear: nobody is too young for 'habits of fear'

Overcoming fear using Hypnotherapy

Why Does This Matter? Because It Happens to All of Us.

We all have situations in life that spark stress, anxiety or fear. For many of my clients at Brixton Hypnotherapy, these responses show up in everyday moments — during work presentations, in social situations, in difficult conversations with family, or when facing big life decisions.

What matters isn’t avoiding these feelings, but knowing how to respond to them in a healthy and manageable way.

How Hypnotherapy Can Help You Manage Stress and Anxiety

In that moment, I drew on the tools I teach my own clients every day. I grounded myself:

  • I uncrossed my legs

  • Planted my feet firmly on the floor

  • Rested my hands in my lap

  • Breathed slowly and deeply

And most importantly: I named the feeling.

“I am scared.”
“I feel anxiety in my stomach.”
“This is fear.”

As I acknowledged it, my body began to calm. This technique — naming and noticing your emotional state — is a powerful tool I use often in my work at Brixton Hypnotherapy.

When you can observe your emotional state without judgment, you reduce its power over you.

Anxiety Isn’t the Enemy — But You Can Take Back Control

Our brains are wired to respond to threat — it’s a survival mechanism. But in modern life, those threats often come in the form of what-ifs, uncertainty, or future thinking.

This is where hypnotherapy becomes such an effective tool.

At Brixton Hypnotherapy, I help clients explore:

  • What triggers your anxiety or fear?

  • What physical sensations arise in your body?

  • How can we calm the nervous system quickly and naturally?

  • What mindset shifts will help you feel more confident and in control?

Whether you’re facing legal conversations, big life transitions, or everyday stress, hypnotherapy provides practical tools to manage and reduce anxiety — so you can respond calmly instead of reacting in panic.

Ready to Reduce Anxiety and Overwhelm?

If you’re feeling anxious, overwhelmed, or stuck in negative thought loops, you’re not alone — and you don’t have to stay stuck.

At Brixton Hypnotherapy, based in South London, I specialise in helping people just like you manage:

  • Chronic stress

  • Generalised anxiety

  • Overwhelm and burnout

  • Confidence and self-esteem issues

Together, we’ll use evidence-based hypnotherapy techniques to get to the root of your fears, retrain your responses, and help you feel calmer, clearer, and more in control.

I have had three clients this week tell me how they have an addiction they want ‘to get on top of’. I would not class any of these clients in therapy with me as having a major problem, nor do any of them want to stop entirely but they feel it is destructive and they fear the habit going further.

I fully understand and I think most of us (who drink) can relate to the feeling of wanting it in some form of moderation; for health, weight and wellbeing reasons.

The first thing I want to tell you if you can relate to this, is you are not alone. Most people feel a bit out of control with consumption or use. The second thing I want to tell you (and it is okay to cry if this hits a chord) is that YOU are not weak, YOU are not weaker than ‘others’, YOU are not out of control and YOU are not ‘incapable’ of stopping yourself.

As a hypnotherapist, I often use ‘parts theory’ and never more so than for this particular issue. It is not YOU that drinks, it is not YOU that has no self-control. There is a PART of you that loves drinking and will have one and another, etc., and there is a PART of you that is appalled and will beat yourself up about it, tell you all sorts of huge things about yourself (such as you have no self-control) and do everything it can to make you feel shit (shittier).

So firstly, take YOU out of the equation and separate yourself into the PART of you that drinks and the PART of you that loves it (fun/the feeling/social/good times in the past) and the part of you that hates it (too much, too fat, too hungover, too old, etc. for this). Now have a chat with them. See it from both sides and don’t let these parts tell you ‘it is who you are’ because it is not who you are. It is simply your current behaviour.

Change is not easy. Change from something as fun, sociable and encouraged as drinking, is even less easy. But it IS possible. It is only possible however after you have stopped beating yourself up, telling yourself really nasty things about yourself, and instead, recognise it is something you DO, not something you ARE.

Brixton Hypnotherapy will help you re-frame your attitude and self-talk, examine why you do it, what is the motivation and then work with this for change. Hypnosis is fantastic for nudging the sub-conscious to change behaviour. As a therapist, I combine more standard talking-therapy with the hypnosis to put you back in the driving seat.

So drop me an email (as my phone is often off!) and I will get back to you about how I can help.

Three times this week, I’ve had clients at Brixton Hypnotherapy announcing this: I can’t be bothered. As a therapist, I believe it is not true, but it’s what someone believes in order to cover something else. When you can’t be bothered, ask yourself what is the fear? Immediately a part of you will jump in and say ‘shut up! There’s no fear, I simply can’t be arsed’, whether that is to change, to do something, to not do something…whatever it is, it’s like a huge cloak descends, and envelopes you so you can stay in peace.

I can’t be bothered – who hasn’t felt that! I have moments when I can’t be bothered to cook, clean, work or walk the dog. But it’s not this kind of ‘laziness’ that I’m talking about. It’s a way of blocking change. The fact a client has sought out hypnotherapy, turned up at a hypnotherapy session, means they truly can be bothered, and on one level, they really want to change. However, this cloak wraps them up snug and says ‘don’t worry about it, ah, to hell with it all anyway!’ So, then there’s me, this annoying therapist asking stuff like ‘what’s the fear?’ if you could be bothered? Then comes the part of my client that is frustrated. Frustrated with this hypnotherapist asking such a daft question, frustrated with themselves for not ‘doing better’ or being able to process the question let alone answer it. And suddenly we’re in a dance of lethargy, frustration, disappointment, confusion, anger and hopelessness!

Luckily for me as a hypnotherapist, these parts will step aside if asked so we can access hope, joy, and motivation. They are often not far away and it takes a bit of nudging but when we get the cloak parts to step aside, there they are BOOM! and that’s when you know you can work with a client like it’s not the clay that’s set solid, but the one you can still mold. Well, that’s how it feels to me, although logically, I’m not re-molding anything, they are.

So next time you’re thinking about unwanted behaviour or negative patterns when you think ‘I can’t be bothered’ imagine the cloak descending and instead of getting cozy, search for your fear. It is likely to be ‘if I bothered, I might fail’ or ‘if I bothered, I don’t know what would happen’ or ‘If I bothered, I might be rejected’ – that’s just a few. The list of fears is endless and that is where hypnotherapy picks away, nips, tucks, prods and squeezes at the clay to make it softer, more malleable and easier to change.

Reclaiming Confidence: How Hypnotherapy Helps Women Break Free from Deep-Rooted Patterns

By Brixton Hypnotherapy | South London Hypnotherapist Specialising in Confidence, Anxiety & Trauma Recovery

At Brixton Hypnotherapy, most of the clients I see are women. And while each person’s story is unique, there’s a powerful common thread: a lifelong pattern of being diminished — emotionally, mentally, and sometimes physically — often in connection with the men in their lives.

From the subtle impact of a controlling partner or an overly assertive family member, to more serious past experiences involving trauma or abuse, many women come to me feeling disconnected from their true selves. And yet, underneath that is a strong, capable identity waiting to be uncovered.

The good news is: we’re not fixed. We are mouldable, adaptable, and resilient. That’s why hypnotherapy works — because your subconscious mind is capable of real, lasting change.

Understanding the Invisible Impact of Gendered Power Dynamics

Recent events in South London have brought issues of male violence and women’s safety into the spotlight. But what often goes unspoken is the everyday emotional and psychological strain women carry — not just from isolated incidents, but from a lifetime of subtle, accumulative undermining.

And yet, even in 2025, many women feel reluctant to speak openly about it. Why?

  • Because naming the problem can make us feel unsafe

  • Because we fear being seen as “difficult” or “too much”

  • Because we’re conditioned to protect others — even at the cost of our own wellbeing

This silence can create anxiety, self-doubt, and a constant second-guessing of our own instincts. That’s where hypnotherapy can help.

How Hypnotherapy Supports Women’s Confidence, Boundaries & Self-Belief

Hypnotherapy isn’t about fixing you — it’s about helping you reclaim yourself.

At Brixton Hypnotherapy, I work with women who are dealing with:

  • Chronic stress from emotional labour or caregiving roles

  • Anxiety that’s worsened by people-pleasing or fear of conflict

  • Low self-esteem, especially in relationships or work settings

  • Self-doubt and overthinking, often driven by internalised criticism

  • Trauma responses, including panic attacks, perfectionism or emotional shutdown

One of the most empowering parts of hypnotherapy is that you don’t always have to rehash the past to move forward. I use techniques that help you:

✅ Access your subconscious beliefs
✅ Rewire unhelpful patterns
✅ Strengthen your inner confidence
✅ Set clearer boundaries
✅ Heal without reliving every detail

The Power of the Subconscious Mind

Many traditional therapies operate mainly through talking. While talking has its place, it can sometimes feel slow — or even re-traumatising.

Hypnotherapy works differently. It bypasses the overly critical, protective part of your brain (what I sometimes call your “inner chimp”) and speaks directly to the subconscious — where your core identity, emotional patterns and beliefs reside.

When the subconscious is engaged in a calm, safe space, we can:

  • Unpack stress and anxiety from the inside out

  • Replace self-criticism with self-compassion

  • Build inner confidence rooted in truth, not fear

  • Create powerful, lasting shifts — often in just 6–8 sessions

Boundaries Are a Form of Healing

One recurring theme I see with women is a difficulty setting or holding boundaries — both with others and with themselves.

You might notice this in small ways:

  • Saying “yes” when you want to say “no”

  • Taking on the emotional weight in your relationships

  • Feeling guilty for asking for help

  • Dismissing your own needs or desires

  • Silencing your discomfort to keep the peace

These aren’t just habits — they’re learned survival strategies. And they can quietly eat away at your confidence and increase stress, anxiety and emotional exhaustion.

Through hypnotherapy, we identify where those patterns were formed and help you build the internal clarity and strength to shift them. You learn to trust your gut, say no without guilt, and speak up — not just with others, but with yourself.

It’s Not Just About Trauma – It’s Also About Growth

You don’t need a dramatic backstory to benefit from this work. Many women I see at Brixton Hypnotherapy are simply tired of feeling small, drained, or stuck in a cycle of overthinking, over-giving and self-criticism.

They want:

  • To feel confident in their own skin

  • To speak up without fear

  • To feel calm and grounded, not overwhelmed and anxious

  • To reconnect with their ambitions, creativity or identity

Hypnotherapy helps create the conditions for this kind of deep growth.

Why Choose Brixton Hypnotherapy in South London?

There’s still a misconception that hypnotherapy is “alternative” or “wacky.” But the work I do at Brixton Hypnotherapyis grounded, ethical and client-led. You won’t find swinging watches or strange rituals — just practical, evidence-informed support.

You’ll experience:

✅ A safe space where you won’t be judged or rushed
✅ Clear goals and collaborative sessions
✅ A trauma-informed approach that respects your pace
✅ Fast, effective results — often faster than traditional talk therapy

A Simple Exercise to Start Today

Take a moment to think about the people in your life — partners, friends, family, colleagues. Rate each one out of 10 for how much they lift you up emotionally and practically.

  • 1 = not at all

  • 10 = consistently supportive

If someone scores a 2 or 3, ask yourself: what needs to change?
Maybe it’s a conversation. Maybe it’s a boundary. Maybe it’s time to re-evaluate the dynamic.

This is the kind of inner clarity hypnotherapy supports — quietly powerful, deeply personal, and long overdue.
